#FromTheGroom – How to Survive Engagement Season Questioning

There are about two weeks till Halloween which means engagement season is just around the corner. If you don’t know what engagement season is, it is the time between November and February when most couples get engaged. Many think that engagement season is big partly due to social media and partly due to the fact that you will soon be around the majority of your family. Plus, Thanksgiving through Valentine’s Day is typically a time of warm and happy occasions and it seems less likely that someone would say no. But, let’s say you’re not ready to pop the question. You’ve been dating your significant other for a while and you know many family and friends will be asking those annoying questions, “So when are you popping the question?” or “When do you plan on getting married?” Well, I’ve got some great answers for you to give. And, if you are ready to pop the question, just check out some of our older blogs for inspiration!

1. Use statistics

“According to Psychology Today, the best age to get married is between 28 and 30. So who wouldn’t want to get married during the best times of their life?!” If you’re older than this, sorry you’re just SOL. But, I’m sure you can find some statics before Thanksgiving to get you through that long day of eating and questioning your life!

2. The “shut-them-up-real-quick” method

“I asked and she said no, but we’re trying to make it work.” It might not be true, but hey, at least they won’t ask again. It’ll keep them busy talking about it through opening the gifts on Christmas day!

3. Just be blunt…not James Blunt though

“I’ll ask when I’m ready to ask.” You can totally just tell them it’s none of their business, and they can leave you alone about it. If they have a follow-up question or tell you, “You’re not getting any younger,” then follow up with telling them that you will tell them when it happens.

4. Fire back with a milestone question

“I’ll propose when you decide to have a kid.” If you know someone has something in their life coming up, you can always bring up that in order for them to stop asking pesky questions liike this.

5. When in doubt, use sarcasm

“I already asked. Didn’t you know we got married last week? I though you were invited! Hmmm, must have missed out.” Although I don’t know how sarcasm will go over with your Aunt Betsy, you could give it a shot. I am not responsible for any ramifications that come from older members after using this method.

6. Awko taco

“We already have great sex now and hear that it goes down hill after marriage. Is that true?” Granted, you might be hearing about the intimate lives of your family members, so I say use this one with caution. Don’t want to hear about Grandma and Grandpa in the bedroom.

7. Give some random date

“September 10, 2019.” The end game for these nosey friends and family is a date. So just start telling them random dates to different people and sit back and watch them debate when you really will get engaged. Don’t forget your popcorn!

8. Suggest them to help out

“Oh, we’ve been meaning to ask you to provide a ring, and then we were going to get engaged!” That might make them stop and think. Then again you might actually get lucky and someone might say they will give you money so be prepared!

9. Baby talk

“We though we would wait till after the baby got here.” You will definitley shock some people, but don’t be surprised if some people will be expecting to see baby announcements soon.

10. Pop culture

“When Barb finally receives the justice due to her!” or “When Rachel finally realizes that they were on a break!”. Think of something that should have happened in your favorite tv shows and use it to your advantage. You’ll have confused people, but you might also have some of them smiling.

I hope these answers will get you through one of the craziest seasons of all. Till then, may the force be with you!
