Why does wedding tradition suggest a bride wear or carry something old. Wearing something old is a bride’s acknowledgment of her family and the past. This wedding tradition involves passing happiness from married friends to the new couple. A happily married friend gives her wedding garter to the new bride; thus sharing happiness from her marriage to the new couple.
