Of all the wedding traditions, the Groom’s Cake is always a fun one. The bridal cake at a wedding is known for being all white and very elegant. The groom’s cake, however, is typically more fun, playful, and laid back. This allows him to show off his personality.
How it all Started
Incorporating a groom’s cake dates back to the Victorian era when weddings included three cakes — the wedding cake, which was for the guests; the groom’s cake, which was for the groom and groomsmen; and the bride’s cake which was for the bride and the bridesmaids. Groom’s cakes are often very contrasting to the bride’s cake, or the wedding cake. They often consist of some kind of chocolate and liquor, but don’t feel confined to the typical groom’s cake!
Non-Traditional Groom’s Cakes
If you’re not one to eat much cake, you might consider having one of the groom’s favorite desserts in place of cake.
Show off His Hobbies
A cake that displays a hobby or skill- such as baseball, fishing, or four-wheeler riding- is perfectly fitting. Combine his favorite flavor with his favorite baseball team or even his alma mater, and you'll have the perfect cake for your groom!
The options for your groom’s cake are endless! Whether you decide to make it a surprise or include his input, your local bakery will work with you to create the perfect cake for your perfect man!
