Fall is here which means that winter isn't far behind. That also means that many of our favorite holidays will be here before you know it. With so many weddings taking place in the spring, it can be hard to combat the extra weight that most gain in the winter and still enjoy the holidays you love. Don't be discouraged! Keeping your body wedding ready may be simpler than you think.
Eat!
Crazy, right? But one mistake that a lot people, not just brides, make when trying to lose weight is to drastically restrict their caloric intake. Sure, you might lose a few pounds this way, but it is not healthy, and can actually cause more weight gain in the future.
Instead, adjust your protions, and eat more lean protein, fresh fruits and veggies, and cut out (or at least way back) on foods that are high in sugars and bad carbs. Again, don't make yourself miserable! THere are many great fitness websites and blogs with helpful tips and healthy recipes if you need help.
Work It!
Staying active is important all year, but to combat all the goodness of those holiday dinner, it is even more important in the winter months. According to this blog post from Anytime Fitness, you should be working out five days a week with two active rest days. Active rest means doing some light yoga, or taking a walk, but not doing a super intense workout.
Drink Up!
This may sound like a broken record, BUT staying hydrated has so many benefits! Trade out your sodas (even diet) and sweet tea for water, sparkling or flat. If you need something with flavor, add in fresh fruit or cucumber and herbs. There are also many different kinds of mix-ins you can get that are zero calorie and low or no sugar. Keep in mind that alcohol has a lot of calories and can dehydrate you, so you might want to take it easy on the eggnog.
The key thing to remember this holiday season (or any season): Balance! Enjoy your holiday dinners, but don't starve yourself to save room or pile your plate a mile high. Eat your favorites in small protions, and if you can't get to the gym, find a fitness routine you can do one the go.
