As the homepage famously says, "Facebook helps you connect and share with the people in your life." But did you know, thanks to Facebook business pages, that you can discover and learn more about your local wedding professionals?
Facebook is a great way to learn more about the people you are considering hiring for your wedding. Caterers, musicians, and florists can all be found on Facebook. After you find your local wedding and party professionals and review their offerings, head to Facebook to learn more about them. Not all wedding vendors are extremely active on the site; however, a few really take advantage of their business pages and upload specials, videos, and notes for their fans to enjoy.
A word of caution: While Facebook is a great way to learn more about a potential vendor, always visit their site or professional network they are associated with to see if the vendor is trustworthy. Then visit Facebook to interact!
Finding a Page
Facebook Pages allows people to share information about their business or product with the public. Unlike personal profiles, a user simply "likes" a page to subscribe and see updates on their homepage alongside their friends' status updates. Wedding professionals often use pages to display photos, specials, and updates about their business.
To get started, search in the Facebook search bar for a business name and choose from among the results.
Once you have found your vendor, refer back to their network's page or Website to double check the phone number and address to ensure that the vendor you are seeing is the same one you found earlier because many wedding vendors on Facebook share the same name.
Learn More
Explore the vendor's information by clicking through the tabs at the top of their page. Here, you will find notes written by the vendor, photos, and any other information the vendor thinks you would like.
Also, you will see the vendor's Wall, which is a feed of posts, status updates, and tidbits posted by the vendor. This is the first place to look for new information, because any change to the page will appear here first.
Interact
Social Media is a means to interact, much like e-mail and text messaging. You can write on a vendor's Wall, comment on a photo, or reply to a status update. Some vendors also allow you to share links or photos on their page. Facebook also has a "like" tool available below postings. It will simply show your name and that you liked the post. For example, "[Your name here] and 7 others like this." You can both like and comment on a post, or stick to one or the other. Liking simply allows you to show your approval without having to write a comment.
Another word of caution: Never provide personal information via Facebook, such a credit card numbers. Facebook is not a secure site, and information on business pages is public. Instead, save your personal information exchanges for either a safe site, such as the vendor's personal site, or when dealing face-to-face with your wedding professional.
There are countless ways to interact with vendors on Facebook. As always, use good judgment and be sure to take a look at vendor information from other sources to make certain they are reputable. Once you have narrowed down your potential wedding vendors to the last few, use Facebook to learn more about them!
