One of the first questions to answer when you begin planning your destination wedding is location. This will determine where you need to go to start your official planning. Once you decide on where you are going to have your wedding, you can contact a local wedding planner that specializes in destination weddings, or contact someone in the wedding location to help you plan your wedding.
You will also need to decide how you will communicate with your planner, and how frequently.
When is the best time to have a destination wedding?
The time of year to have your wedding will depend on the location you choose. If you are choosing a tropical location, check to see when their hurricane and rainy season is. Mountains and skiing more your style? Make sure to plan accordingly for the best conditions. Who do I invite?
This is totally up to you and your future spouse. Some people have destination weddings so it is a more private affair, with only their closest relatives (or just themselves). Some choose to invite all of their family. Just remember to send your save the dates out 9-12 months in advance to give people time to make plans.
How do I make sure my marriage is legal?
If you are traveling out of the United States, each country has its own set of marriage laws. This means you will have to do some research after you have decided on your destination. If you are staying in the US for your destination wedding, you will need to check the laws in the county and state you are to be wed. You can also get legally married at home, and then have a symbolic ceremony at your destination. In some cases, this is much easier than dealing with all the paperwork that can come with a wedding in another country.
