She asked and you said, "Yes!" Now the bridesmaid duties begin, and if this is your first time as a bridesmaid, you might have no idea what that means. From the basics, like planning the bachelorette party, to extra duties, like making sure the reception doesn't fizzle out too early, we have a few tips to help you be a better bridesmaid. Because who doesn't want to be at their best for their girl's big day?
Stay organized.
If you are the Maid or Matron of Honor, this will be extremely important. You will be in charge of planning the wedding shower, bachelorette party, as well as keeping things on track for the day of the wedding. Even as a bridesmaid, offer to do what you can to help things go smoothly. Step up and help out the MOH during the party planning and on the wedding day.
Always keep the bride in mind.
It can be frustrating to watch your best gal pal go from blushing bride to bridezilla at a moment's notice. Instead of getting angry, try to understand where the bride is coming from and help her work through whatever is stressing her out. Remember, it's her big day.
Stay Positive.
There will be times that the stressfulness that is wedding planning will get the bride down. Nothing will seem to be going properly, and she might be ready to call it quits. Keep a positive attitude and help encourage her to do the same. Let her know it's not the end of the world if she has to get napkins in ivory instead of white.
Be honest, but kind.
Even when you are doing your best to agree with each decision the bride makes, there will be times she'll need a gentle reminder that she's not making the best decision. If she asks for your opinion on something, don't be afraid to tell her. Be honest, but do it in a way that won't leave her feeling defeated.
Be supportive and do what is needed.
The biggest and most important way to be a better bridesmaid? Be supportive and do whatever the bride (or MOH) needs you to do. That may mean setting aside your personal differences with another bridesmaid (or groomsmen) or not taking that extra shot at the bachelorette party so that you can make sure the bride makes it back to the hotel safely.
