Planning a wedding is stressful. There are many details that go into a wedding. You must find the right venue, wedding dress, caterer and flowers as well as many other things. What do you even ask when you sit down with vendors? Wedding and Party Network has a few suggestions on what to ask your florist so you can be well prepared before your first meeting.
What to ask your florist:
- How long have you been making wedding arrangements? You want to make sure you are in the hands of a trusted florist. Also, the florist wants you to know that you are in trusted hands.
- What style do you specialize in? Not every bride shares the same style. Modern, contemporary, traditional, classic, romantic vintage or whatever it may be; you want to know that they understand your style. Also understand that you must explain to them exactly what you have envisioned.
- Can I see a portfolio of your work? Every florist designs differently. Some you may love while others may not be quite your style. Take a look at their past work and see if it can be a fit for your wedding.
- Are you familiar with my ceremony and reception location? When you visit with your florist, it should be a collaboration. You give them your vision and they help come up with ideas to create it. So, a florist knowing your wedding location definitely helps. They know what looks good and what does from previous experience.
- What are your fees and how do you charge for arrangements? Some florists charge a per item fee or just a flat rate. Also, ask what they normally charge for your wedding bouquet, centerpieces, wedding arrangements, boutonnieres and corsages. It's always best to know upfront on if this particular florist can fit in your budget or not. If they can't, it will save both your time and theirs.
- Can you work within my budget? Budget is extremely important to most brides. If you have a budget, make sure you state what it is at the beginning. If they know your budget, they can offer up tips to help you save as well by using seasonal flowers.
- Will you design a sample of my bouquet and arrangements? Some brides needs a visual of their flowers beforehand to make sure that's what they are wanting. If that's you, be sure to ask.
- What is the required deposit? Money is always something that you must know. Can you afford the deposit and does it fit within your budget?
- When is the balance due? Is it due before or after the wedding? This is just for your benefit to know so you can plan accordingly.
- How many weddings are you doing the weekend of mine? Is your wedding going to be of main importance? You may think that they have too many weddings on their hand that weekend and you would like yours to be of priority. It's just something to consider for you and even the florist.
When visiting with your florist, be prepared with questions and know what to ask. They will appreciate that you researched and it will make your overall visit more productive and enjoyable by both parties.

I'm glad I've read your blog about some important questions to asl when hiring a wedding florist. I volunteered to be one of the coordinators of my sister's outdoor wedding ceremony, which is why I find it helpful to read your blog. Perhaps, I shall then follow your advice to ask for a copy of their previous work and see if their flower arrangements fit the wedding.
