Its no secret that cakes are traditional at wedding receptions. The march down the aisle happens, the kiss happens, the "I present to you husband and wife!" happens, and then its time for the reception. What comes first? The tradition of cutting that big, white, tasty cake.
But, wait. What if you're not all that traditional? Just because tradition says wedding cakes are the norm does not mean that you have to jump on that wedding cake bandwagon. Opt for some of these alternatives instead.1. Cupcakes! Cupcake towers are not only adorable; they are also modern, classy, and simple. All it takes are a few dozen cupcakes (depending on the amount of guests you plan to have at your reception), a cupcake tower, and some pretty frosting and sprinkles, and voila! You have yourself a wedding cupcake tower that all of the kids and adults alike will want to taste!
2. Cookies! Like a little black dress, cookies never go out of style. Whether you choose to go with chocolate chip, white macadamia nut, peanut butter, or a mix of all three, cookies in your favorite flavors are sure to delight guests. Serve them warm for that extra "ahh" effect.
3. A full on dessert table! Set up a table made just for desserts. Use decorative dishes to showcase them, and place candies like m&ms, sour gummy worms, and skittles in them. Add some pies, cake slices, and sweet punch to really bump up the sweetness. The good thing about a candy table: it keeps kids busy & adults happy!
No matter what you choose to go with, any sort of dessert will work well when replacing a wedding cake. Show your guests some variety and something new!
