Little Country Churches = Big Wedding Charm

If you live in a rural area, you probably pass by them every day. They dot the countryside and add a picturesque view to fields and pastures. Little country churches are everywhere, but many couples dismiss them when planning their weddings. Many are too small to accommodate large wedding attendances. Many don't have the facilities to host an extravagant reception. But before you throw the baby out with the bathwater, consider what small country churches do have.

1. Charm and elegance. Many churches are simply white, with a modest steeple, but step inside and you find one-of-a-kind stained glass windows, well cared for pews, flooring and quaint furnishings. These features make for a lovely backdrop for a wedding. Not enough room inside? Move the wedding outside under a billowy white tent with the church as the background.
2. Simplicity. Country churches are usually furnished simply, so you have a blank canvas to work with for your wedding decorations. Simple can be very elegant.
3. Lots of acreage. No reception hall? Have your reception on the grounds. White tents, candlelight or lanterns make a beautiful outdoor reception and will accommodate large numbers of guests.
4. Friendly, accommodating personnel. It means a lot to have people who will help you with your wedding and reception arrangements. Many times small churches have a secretary or pastor's wife who will be your liaison with the church and will help you with your needs.
5. Cost-effective. Many small churches don't require a huge amount of money to use their facilities, like a city church might.  You can save a lot of money on the venue, while having a quaint, lovely setting for your wedding.
