Being a groomsman is a huge responsibility and truly an honor. You should feel totally ecstatic you were asked to be a part of your friend's big day. How do you fill the duty of being a groomsman? Wedding and Party Network has a few tips in helping you be the best groomsman.
A few months before the wedding:
Actually tell them that you are willing to do whatever it takes to make their day special. Don't just assume that they know this since you're a groomsman. Tell them.
- Get your tuxedo, suit or whatever it may be. You want to make sure that you have it in time with all the accessories and to make sure it actually fits you. This should be your main priority when they tell you what you will be wearing and where you can get it.
- Next on the agenda is the bachelor party. Get all the groomsmen together and start planning. What does he like to do? Will it be a roadtrip, trip to Vegas, camping trip or a day full of sports? It should definitely be all about the groom. Pick a weekend and make those reservations
Leading up tot he big day:
- Go on that bachelor party. It maybe the night before the wedding, however, it may be smart to make it a few weeks before the wedding. Make sure everyone and especially the groom has a fantastic time.
- Get groomed. Yes, you need to figure out if you need a haircut or anything else you do to look presentable. Schedule a haircut and don't forget to shave.
- Don't forget to take off work. It may be in town or it may be a destination wedding. If it is in town, consider taking off that Friday or at least for a half a day to be there to help.
- Help with anything they may need setup. Ask the bride and groom what you can do to make their day a little easier. They may need help setting up tables for the rehearsal or reception dinner or running errands. Be available for them.
- Lay out everything you need. Most guys think they can wait to the last-minute and just grab everything since they need so little. However, you can forget anything. Make a list of what you need and have it all ready to go. If you're having to wear a tie or bow tie, learn how to tie it. You can even help some of the other guys out as well. Even bring extra if any of the other groomsmen forget something.
- Be on time. It's not your day, it's the bride and grooms day. Respect that. Be on time, prepared and don't complain. Do everything with a smile on your face.
- The last thing to do is smile. Pictures are worth a thousand words and tell the story of the wedding day. Make sure and smile. Even if you aren't one that smiles, don't look like you're hating every second of the wedding day process. These aren't your wedding photos so respect that.
Be a great groomsmen by following these simple tips. If you do, everything will run smoothly and the bride and groom with most definitely appreciate you for it.
