After finding the perfect dress, it’s time to pick out your corsage and boutonniere. Choosing the perfect corsage and boutonniere style is the best way to complete your look! Here are three styles to consider when you go to your local florist.
Traditional
If your dress is more of a traditional style then consider choosing a corsage and boutonniere that is classically elegant. Some beautiful white roses paired with white ribbon is a beautiful look that will match any color dress.

However, we're seeing lots of pastels, floral prints, metallics, textured dresses and the ombre effect as well. We are loving these trends and would love to see you at prom as well. Top Trends in Prom Corsages & Boutonnieres
The big night is coming. It’s the peak of your high school life, and it should be perfect. If you have your dress, you’re ready to pick your flowers. Your florist is ready to take a look at your colors and create a corsage and boutonniere just for you! Here are the top trends in corsages and boutonnieres (don’t forget the boys!):
Classic Style
Popular prom flowers are much the same varieties as wedding flowers, as prom is usually a romantic night spent dressed to the nines. Roses and orchids have topped the prom flower list for a very long time and don’t seem to be going anywhere. Pair them with classic fillers, like baby’s breath, for a time-honored look.
Mix It Up with Succulents
Dare to be different! Succulents are funky and fun, and highly varied in style. It’s easy to pair succulents with either flowers or other succulents. Combine them with pearls and jewels for a modernly elegant look or vintage lace for rustic charm. The best part is that succulents require very little care, so you can keep your corsage and boutonniere for a long time after the prom.
Add a Little Bling
One of the best ways to stand out is to sparkle as much as possible! Your florist has incredible varieties of bling to choose from. Beaded and rhinestone cuffs can be combined with jewels, lights, pearls and glitter to create a custom corsage that will show up brightly under the prom night lights.
Alternative to the Wrist Corage
Seeing wrist corsages all over the dance floor and in every magazine photo…and not really feeling it? Ask your florist about floral jewelry and hairpieces. There’s lots of inspiration out there for floral necklaces, rings, belts, headbands, hair picks, and even flowers for your handbag. Flowers can be incorporated into just about any sort of wearable.
Matching
Consider going with your date to pick out flowers. On one hand, it’s a joy to be surprised by your date’s pick. But on the other, it’s also really fun if you perfectly match! Bring fabric swatches or photos of your outfits (taken in natural lighting for the best color match) and be the most coordinated couple on the floor.
It’s your special night. Whatever you want, you should have. Your choice in flowers will reflect the person you’ve become over your years in school, and your florist is ready to create your vision! Try to give plenty of prior notice – remember, your classmates are heading to the florist shop, too. Make your prom night the most memorable night of high school life!
Top Prom Dress Trends for 2014
Prom 2014 is coming up fast, and with fashion that is always changing, it's easy to not quite know where to begin your shopping spree for the perfect dress. If you're looking to be on trend this prom season, it's all about feminine details and color.
Nudes and Mint: Mint green has been a popular choice of color for clothing and jewelry for a while, but now it is making it's way to prom dresses. Nude, pink and mint are very compatible, so look forward to seeing these colors together. It seems that bright colors have almost always been popular at prom, and while they definitely will appear this season, mint and various nudes are beautiful and feminine on a gown.
Lace: While extremely popular in the bridal market, lace is finally making its way to prom. Lace is the ultimate feminine detail and will mainly show itself in overlays and in the neckline of dresses. This feature will most likely accompany the nude theme.
Overlays: Wearing a short dress to prom has increased in popularity in recent years, but what if you're not so sure you want to take the plunge? Well, this year those short hemlines may be extended with a sheer overlay, giving you the best of both worlds. This trend also really highlights long legs, which is always a plus.
Hi-Lo Dresses: This style also combines both lengths since these dresses are above the knee in the front and gradually go long as you move to the back. Hi-lo is extremely popular in casual clothing as well and does a good job of breaking out of the traditional mold when it comes to formal wear. And if you are a fan of all of the trends, you can most likely find a hi-lo dress that combines them, with lace detail at the top and in a nude or mint color.
Most of you have been shopping for your dress, if you haven't already purchased your dress, but if not, keep these trends in mind.

Guys Guide to a Successful Prom
Alright, guys. It's prom night, you've got a gorgeous date and you want to impress. What do you do? Believe it or not, it's not that hard to knock her off her feet. She's already excited about the evening, so your primary job is to make sure things go smoothly with a little pizzazz thrown in to keep things interesting.
The Tux
Before you can focus on her, you first have to get your own situation sorted out. That means a trip to the tuxedo shop! It may sound scary, but believe me, it can be loads of fun.
These days you can find more than the traditional white shirt with black jacket, bow tie and cummerbund. The accessories are almost endless! Prefer a white tux? No problem. How about blue or even yellow? Can do. You can also get a matching top hat, cane, shoes, vest, pocket square, long tie, no tie and a world of other options. The tux isn't a hardship, gentlemen. It's an opportunity to shine! Don't neglect your chance to create a suit with personality.
That doesn't mean there are no guidelines here. Before you go too crazy, you need to find out what color your date's outfit will be. You don't want to show up in bright orange while she's wearing dark purple. Seriously. You don't want that.
The Flowers
This can be as simple or complicated as you like. At bare minimum you need two different pieces, a boutonniere for you and a corsage for her. You'll need to know what color dress she's wearing for this as well because you'll want the flowers to match her outfit.
In addition to the two floral pieces I previously mentioned, there are a variety of other floral options available that will not only be appropriate but much appreciated. Going with your girlfriend of over a year? A single red rose is a great way to show her that she's loved. Going with a close friend? Gerbera Daisies make the perfect bouquet for a friendly date. If you're not sure what flower would best convey the message you're trying to send, contact your local florist!
Transportation
Nobody wants to roll up at the prom in the same old vehicle they take to school every day, but what can you do if you don't have tons of disposable cash? Well, you might be surprised at how little a limo rental would actually cost, especially if you're just looking for a drop-off and pick-up. Different limo agencies have different packages, and prom is a big deal for them so they will be very familiar with helping you make the most of a relatively limited budget.
Another path would be to pool your money with some friends. You can get a slightly bigger limo and spend less money to have it! Get two or three of your closest buddies to pitch in and your dates will be very impressed when you arrive to pick them up in a beautiful stretch limo.
Not interested in a limo? How about a horse-drawn carriage? Yes, these exist and there is nothing more romantic than a moonlit ride.
The Prom
Your presence is not all your date requires from you. No matter how well you've done up to this point, you can wash it all down the drain at the big event unless you follow these simple tips:
- Pay attention to your date – This seems like a no-brainer, but you'd be surprised how many people arrive at the prom with someone and then abandon them for hours at a time. You brought her, and you need to make sure that she feels special throughout the evening.
- Dance – You didn't come to the prom to sit at a table or stand on the wall. Or, maybe you did, but she certainly didn't. If you feel inadequate on the fast songs, that's understandable. But you have no excuse to avoid the slow dances. Get out on the floor and show her some love!
And that's it. If you do those two simple things, you'll have an amazing time and so will your date!
The After Party
Once prom is over, there's always an after-party. The only question is: are you attending it, or are you throwing it? She'll be expecting to go, so if you aren't aware of one then you need to plan one. It doesn't have to be some huge affair. Feel free to do something simple with just a handful of friends, but you need to do something.
And there you have it, a guys guide to a successful prom!
