Dear Ask the Bridesmaid,
I am in charge of planning my best friend's bridal shower. I have done some research and looked online to see if I should plan some games, but I don't know if I should plan a lot or if I should plan just a few. I've never had to host a bridal shower before and I'm completely lost. Can you help me out?
Thanks,
Abby
Hey Abby,
Planning your best friends bridal shower is one of the most fun things to do leading up to the wedding! This is the time where you, the other bridesmaids, and other guests invited to the party get to shower the bride with gifts for her future home.
When it comes to planning how many games you would want to play, I would for sure plan on having at least two or three ice breaker games ready. These games will allow the bride and guests to get to know one another. While you will have bridesmaids and other close friends of the bride there, you might also have guest invited that are distance family members or close family friends from the groom's side that the bride may not know. Having these icebreaker games will allow for the awkwardness in the room to slowly go away.
As for the rest of the party, depending on how long the bridal shower will be is how long you will want to plan for games. Keep in mind how many people are invited or have RSVP'd, as this is the amount of time you will need available for the bride to open up gifts. If you have a small party of people coming, then plan for some games that will take up time. However, if you are planning for a lot of people coming then you might want to limit the number of games to just those first icebreaker games.
PRO TIP: The best thing you can do for these kinds of parties is to have a schedule for how you would like the party to flow. This schedule doesn't need to share with anyone else, but it's a way to keep the party organized and going smoothly. This way if you need a filler game, then you can have a back up one ready if the bride opens the presents faster than what you anticipated. If there are more presents, then you omit something that you had planned. It's all about being prepared, being organized, and enjoying yourselves!
Hope you have fun,
Aynsley
