It's no secret that wine is kind of a big deal. Searching for that perfect bottle of red or white might seem intimidating, and with the cold weather rolling in, you might prefer to hang out on the couch instead of broadening your wine expertise. That's why hosting a wine party is the perfect opportunity to get together with your besties and expand your wine horizons this winter.
The first step to having a successful party is deciding on the theme.
Mystery Tasting– Have each person bring their favorite bottle or have the staff at the store choose the wines for you. Keep them in brown sacks or cover the labels and number the bottles. Then have everyone taste each wine and vote on their favorite.
Wine and Cheese– Grab a serving tray and get ready to set up your very own cheese and charcuterie assortment. You'll want to include a palate cleanser between wines also. This could be small slices of plain bread, pretzels, or mint leaves.
Wine and Chocolate– Wine and chocolate are a little trickier to pair, and some might even say they don't belong together at all. However, when done correctly, a perfectly paired wine and chocolate will leave your friends ready for more.
You could also base your wines on a specific region or vintage. There are so many different way to do your party and these are just a couple of the options. Unless you are having each guest bring a bottle of their favorite wine, you'll want to narrow it down to around five varieties. You don't want to overwhelm the pallet and flavors could get muddled if you have too many varieties.
To give your guests a small souvenir, customize their wine glasses by painting them or using vinyl decals or stickers. This could even be included as part of the party fun. Pick out some mellow tunes and get ready to swirl, sniff, and sip the night away!
