Feast Like A King!
When you think of Mardi Gras, you think of New Orleans. It's only natural. Therefore, we think of authentic Cajun food that we just crave! Our mouths are watering just by thinking about it. Therefore, your party should feature creole and Cajun goodness! Seafood is a major part of New Orleans along with spicy goodness.
Start off your party with oyster appetizers! If you're not a fan of oysters, serve up spicy crab dip, fried shrimp, Cajun canapes, Cajun trail mix, crawfish dip or anything with a little creole seasoning will be a great appetizer!
One thing you may want to consider having, crawfish. You can feature a crawfish boil to go along with your Mardi Gras theme. Cook up some crawfish with corn and potatoes or have crawfish gumbo and etoufee. You can go with crab legs, frog legs or jambalaya. All these items go hand in hand with New Orleans.
If you want to, get creative and serve up alligator. There are all sorts of things that you will be able to serve up on Fat Tuesday, from pastas to sandwiches. Everything will be delicious, especially paired with a Hurricane.
What type of dessert? Everything is about spice, do we have to serve a spicy dessert? Of course, not! It's all about the King Cake for a Mardi Gras dessert. The King Cake features a pastry ring with filling and icing.
Some bakers are now getting creative with the types of fillings they use, your local bakery can come up with something to suit your taste. They all are created with purple, green and gold sprinkles and baked with a baby inside. It is said that whoever gets the cake piece with the baby inside will have good fortune. You can also serve up traditional beignets, bananas foster, crepes or themed cookies! Set up a station for each dessert, like a crepe bar, where guests can top it off with their own fillings and whipped cream. Or set up a bananas foster station. Whatever you choose, make sure you have the traditional King Cake!
And For The Attire
Stick with beads and masks! However, some can get creative and dress up as Jesters, Kings and Queens. Throw out beads everywhere as part of decoration and then your guests can pick them up and wear them as part of their costume. Feathers, boas and masks are great details to add to costumes too. Stick with the color scheme and add some beads and you'll be dressed to impress!
