It’s August and for most of us, that means it’s hot. Like, miserably hot. But that doesn’t mean the party has to stop! We believe there’s no better way to beat the heat than a big summertime celebration with a fun theme to take your mind off the literal oven outside. Not sure where to start? We’ve got you covered, bestie! These party ideas are definitely the coolest of the season.
Ice Cream Party
Ice cream parties are probably the easiest of the party themes, but always a crowd pleaser. Seriously, who doesn't like ice cream? When it comes to ice cream parties, they can be as simple or elaborate as your heart and your budget desires!
A sundae bar with all kinds of flavors and toppings for everyone to choose from is always a classic. You could also offer ice cream flights- where everyone gets to choose 3 or 4 flavors and try a small amount of each, which would be fun with more unique flavors and a more adult take on ice cream parties! A Bring Your Own Ice Cream where each guest brings their own homemade flavor is also a fun take on the traditional ice cream party. You can hand out score sheets and let everyone judge the ice creams, then guess who brought what. If you want to go over the top, you could rent an ice cream truck for your party and let everyone indulge in the nostalgia (we’ll take one SpongeBob Pop please!) Of course, you don’t have to limit yourself to ice cream here. Any cold summer treat would work: Sno Cones, Popsicles, even milkshakes or floats. The sky’s the limit, bestie.
Water Party
Nothing says summertime quite like a pool party. Playing mermaids or Marco Polo, or just floating around is the perfect remedy to this heat. We know not everyone has a pool on standby though, so don’t worry! There’s more than one way to enjoy the water.
Water wars make for a refreshing competition for kids and adults. Water guns, water balloons, water-soaked sponges, actual buckets full of water- pretty much anything that can hold or spray water is what you need. You can have teams or just let it be a free for all, really just have fun with it and the last one not completely soaked wins! Slip and slides are another great way to cool off. You can buy one or make your own with a tarp or trash bags. Just make sure you tie it down and have a water hose handy to keep the slide wet, and add some soap and sprinklers for extra fun! Get creative with kick ball or softball by adding in some water elements like using slip and slides to slide into base, or replacing the ball with a water balloon. Looking for something more extravagant? Rent out some water friendly inflatable slides or bounce houses!
Camping Party
Everyone loves a good camping trip, but you don’t have to leave your house to enjoy all the best parts of camping! We do suggest this for more of an overnight/late night party situation to add to the camping experience.
Take backyard camping to the next level with a camping themed outdoor movie marathon! Set up a couple of tents with pillows and blankets and a projector screen and enjoy! Throw in a campfire area with camping food favorites like hot dogs and a s'mores station to really set the mood. Too many bugs where you live to camp outside? Move it indoors! Make forts, or just set up your tents inside. Throw in some camping themed arts and crafts for the kiddos, and gather around a “campfire” to share spooky stories and it will feel like you’re in the woods!
The most important thing to remember when throwing your beat the heat bash is to just have fun! Everyone loves a good party, it’s just a bonus if they can cool off while they’re at it.
