Ending one year on a sweet note and beginning the next one with a bang can be easy and fun with a handful of great ideas.
You can look forward and back at the same time with a fun game you can play as you wait for the ball to drop. It’s easy, too. Print up some cards and put them in a bowl. Have guests draw one and answer it. The cards can say anything, of course, but some good suggestions include: “What is the hardest you laughed this year?”, “Your most embarrassing moment of the year,” “What do you want to do differently in the upcoming year?”, “The best place you visited this year,” “A day in this past year you’d live over and over,” “A New Year’s resolution that you didn’t keep this year but plan to next year.” The game can be poignant, thoughtful, or whimsical and hilarious. It just depends on the tone of the cards.
Tattoos can be a fun way to mark an occasion, but unless you are VERY sure that 2017 will likely be the very best year of your entire life and you want to commemorate that fact with a tattoo, you might want to get temporary tats instead. Easy to find at places like Etsy, or by doing a quick google search.
Combine the fun of a photo booth and the tradition of writing new year’s resolutions into one mound of awesomeness. Let people write their new year’s resolutions on a chalkboard (“floss daily,” “exercise more,” “read a classic”) and photograph them holding it. A fun idea and…you’ll have photographic evidence that they meant to do better a little later in the year.
Add bubbles to your bubbly by dropping some cotton candy into champagne. Or you could use rock candy skewers to add bright pops of color and texture. Not that champagne has to be messed with to be wonderful, but it does add a touch.
Tick off the hours by popping a balloon in 60 minute increments. Fill the ballon with confetti before you blow it up for a nice effect.
Play “Minute to Win It” games. Try “Kisses Countdown.” Place numbered chocolate kisses (on the bottom) under 12 Solo cups (unnumbered). Place 12 numbered cups in a circle to represent a clock. Participants will uncover one kiss at a time hidden under a cup and place it in the correct hour and corresponding cup in the “clock of cups.” Must complete and have a kiss in every hour before the allotted time expires. Or, “The Countdown Knock Down.” Place 12 cups in a circle so that it resembles a clock with a cup in each hour position. The player will place a pair of pantyhose on their head with a tennis ball in the bottom of one leg. In the time allotted they will need to knock over, or out of position, each hour on the clock starting with 11 and working backwards around the clock. The last one to be knocked over should be 12 o’clock.
There you have it-fun and easy ways to kick off the new year. Add some glitter and great friends and you should have a terrific New Year’s party! Happy 2017!
