Christmas is my favorite time of year, which means Christmas parties are my favorite kind to host. I always get so excited about my annual Christmas party and this year I wanted to do some really unique things. Done with Christmas trees and garland, I decided I wanted to create a very modern, but whimsical atmosphere for this years’ party.
Add A Little Party Sparkle
I decided that lighting would be my main focus to create the atmosphere I wanted, and what better and more practical than strands of clear lights. Inexpensive, resourceful and able to be used later for other purposes, strand lights are a good decorating investment. My venue has tiled ceilings, perfect for draping which is exactly what I am going to do with the lights. Now, you can’t do this and do it right with a very big room unless you have a large budget. But for a smaller room this lighting technique is ideal. I draped, in no pattern whatsoever, strands of lights from tile to tile, covering the ceiling in several levels of twinkling lights. It’s perfect! It creates such a romantic glow in a very unique way. If you want to be more festive, drape colored strand lights which are very cool as well. To further enhance this glowing atmosphere, I decided to buy several bags of votive candles and basically cover anything that has a surface with scattered candles. The glow from the candles added another dimension to the strands of lights and the effect they give off.
Create A Party Beat
Atmosphere is created by the senses. Sight, we have achieved with the above decorations. Sound is next and any party thrower knows, music at a Christmas party makes for instant festivity. Depending on the style of the event you could choose any form of music, however, I think live musical entertainment is always best. A local jazz trios or acoustic guitar musicians are what I have on tap this year.
Tasty Treats Make The Party
What two senses influence atmosphere more than smell and taste. Every party must include a tasty treat for your guests which brings me to my menu. Because I value my time and my sanity, I turn to a local caterer to provide the food. Bite-size treats and candies are perfect for Christmas parties where everyone is mingling. So this year my caterer is providing finger foods and special chocolate bonbons.
