Ah, Valentine’s Day. Here are three ways to rock out that cold mid-month holiday.
Valentine’s Day can be so…expected. It’s hard to keep romance and spontaneity in the date when you must do it February 14, along with every other couple who happen to be celebrating their unique one-of-a-kind love, too. So, maybe the partner is known and the date is a given, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be any surprise to the holiday. Instead of chocolates and flowers, consider a Love Book. A bit of preplanning is required, but so worth it. You create your own personalized gift book that lists all the reasons why you love someone. If that doesn’t win Valentine’s Day, nothing will! Do it in in three easy steps: create characters to star in your book- you choose hair color, skin tone and more to make it look like you and your significant other. Next, pick out the cover—there are hundreds to choose from. Finally, personalize each page to fit your story by adding illustrations, selecting texts, and positioning the characters. They even offer unlimited pages because no love story should be cut short. How great is that? Go to www.lovebookonline.com to start yours!
Who says being alone in mid-February has to be a bad thing? If you find yourself without a fella, do the day Leslie Knope style (of Parks and Rec fame) and invite your girlfriends for a Galentine’s Day instead. The only hard and fast rules seem to be: keep it elegant, use lots of pink, figure out ways to have as much chocolate as you can, and, definitely, no boys allowed! Traditionally a brunch or tea party, you can be charming in a way you can only be with your same gendered friends. Your boyfriend will not oh and oh over heart-shaped drink stirrers and garlands made of red flowers, but your friends will be delighted. For a simple but stunning decoration, make paper pom poms. They cost just pennies and can be made in any color in just a few minutes. Get 6-10 sheets of tissue paper and fold them length-wise accordion style. Use sharp scissors to cut both ends of a folded tissue paper into a point. Secure the center by binding the center of the tissue with florist wire. Tie a ribbon onto the wire so the finished pom-pom can be suspended. Gently pull apart layers of tissue and fluff them for form a sphere. Hang with ribbon for a beautiful effect. Hey, just trying to keep the day from feeling sad (#SingleAwarenessDay).
Whether you are with friends or that special person, you have got to make this drink! Sure to dazzle, this concoction, fittingly called Love Potion #9 Martini, is a sweet drink that tastes great but looks killer. Bonus: it takes five minutes of prep time. Simple. In a cocktail shaker, combine one cup of pomegranate juice, 3 ounces (2 shot glasses) strawberry vodka, and 3 ounces (2 shot glasses) of Chambord Black Raspberry Liqueur. Place 1 chuck dry ice (handle carefully, please!) into the bottom of each glass. Pour the martini over a very small piece of dry ice. Garnish with skewered strawberry hearts to complete the effect. Wait 5-10 minutes for the dry ice to dissolve before drinking. Please note not to ingest the dry ice cubes; wait until they have dissolved before sipping. Enjoy!
Whatever your situation or status, you can look forward to the day in anticipation because now you know how to make it great!
