Wanna do something fun for April Fool's Day? Need a unique idea that will truly surprise your guests and throw them for a loop? Host an April Fool's Dinner. Wedding and Party Network has a great idea to fool your guests on this holiday, they won't know what hit them! Your guests may expect some pranks, but they'll never expect anything like this!
What A Beautiful Arrangement
When your guests arrive, they may be expecting crazy party decorations that are truly out of the ordinary. However, don't place decorations out at all. That's what they will be expecting and you don't want to give them anything that they know they will see.
Send out the normal party invitations asking them over for a casual get together to celebrate April Fools. Stick with your regular home decor instead of going all out with crazy decorations. Stick with the casual layout of your home.
Well, how do you expect to incorporate April Fool's Day into this dinner party? Start with the centerpieces. Everyone will expect to see a floral centerpiece and maybe a few candles as decor. However, have you every seen the edible flower arrangements made of fruits or even vegetables? This can serve as your table arrangement. It serves as decor and a fun appetizer! Guests will be in awe of the fun creation out of fruit or vegetables.
Imagine the pink color of watermelon paired with the orange color of cantaloupe to create a beautiful orange and pink fruit flower arrangement. You can even take broccoli and cherry tomatoes to create an arrangement that looks like a tree with red flowers. These are so fun and unique and easy to do by yourself! Just take Styrofoam, shape it how you'd like and place the vegetables on it. Or you can take cookie cutters to the fruit and place them on wooden dowels. However, if you're not so crafty; check out your local florist to give you some advice.
What's In Store
Now for the party food. The part that will be "fooling" about this party will be the food. What do we mean? Create food that isn't how it seems. It looks one way, but is completely different. It will be a shock to your guest's taste buds.
Appetizers: How about serving sushi? Well, not really. It's more like a peanut butter and jelly rolled into sushi rolls. How fun! Or serve up dessert. Not technically. A bologna cake(recipe below)? Yes, it doesn't sound appetizing. However, if you enjoy bologna, your guests will enjoy this as an appetizer. Take bologna, cheese, bread and all the fixings and layer it in a spring form pan. Once you've done all the layering, take it out of the pan and ice it just like a cake with the "icing". Great little finger sandwiches to serve.
Ingredients
2 loaves of cheap white Bread, crusts cut off 8 Tbs. of Italian Dressing 1/2 lb. sliced bologna
3/4 lb. American cheese slices 2 containers of whipped cream cheese Ketchup (if desired)
Garnishes: Parsley, Black Olives, etc. (if desired)
Use a springform pan to hold all the layers together. Begin by layering the bread slices in a double layer in the bottom of the spring form cake pan. Tear or cut up some of the bread to fill in any gaps. Sprinkle 2 Tbs. of the Italian dressing over the two layers of bread. Next, a layer using all of the bologna over the dressing and bread. Next double layer the bread again and again sprinkle with 2 Tbs. of Italian dressing. Next create a cheese layer using all of it over that bread layer. Use the rest of the bread to cover the cheese layer and again sprinkle 2 Tbs. of Italian dressing over the bread. Press the entire thing gently down into the pan.
Next you make the ‘frosting'. In a large bowl, mix the rest of the dressing with the two containers of whipped cream cheese. Remove the metal spring form pan. Using a spatula, ice the cake with the whipped cream cheese the same way you would ice a cake. Transfer the cake to a serving platter or large plate.
Use any remaining cream cheese to pipe around the cake with cake decorating supplies. Fill a small baggie with ketchup, seal and snip off the end. Use the ketchup to decorate the cake.
Main Course:Oh, the possibilities that awaits on this day. Serve up a tasty meatloaf cake, spaghetti torte or a spaghetti cake(recipes found below). Your guests will think they'll be getting dessert as their main course. Bake meatloaf like you normally would except bake it in a spring form pan and use mashed potatoes to create an icing effect. You can also create a spaghetti cake or torte, which follows the same concept as the meatloaf recipe. Guests will be speechless!
Meatloaf Cake
Ingredients
2 Round Cake Pans Meatloaf Recipe Mashed Potatoes
Ketchup Cherry Tomatoes
Prepare your favorite meatloaf recipe as you normally would, but, before baking, divide the mixture into the two round cake pans and pat it flat.
1. Bake as usual, but shorten the cooking time (these thinner meatloaves won't take nearly as long to cook).
2. While the meatloaf is in the oven, make a batch of mashed potatoes; add a little extra milk and whip for extra fluff
3. When the meatloaves are done, invert one of them onto a round plate.
4. Cover the meat with a thick, even layer of mashed potatoes.
5. Place the other meatloaf on top of the potato layer, and finish frosting the "cake" with the remaining potatoes.
6. Garnish with halved cherry tomatoes to look like cherries.
7. Just before serving, decorate the top of your cake with ketchup.
And For Dessert:Again, there are so many possibilities when it comes to serving a not so likely dessert. You just have to get creative. Start with chicken nuggets, peas and mashed potatoes and gravy. However, it won't be that at all! It will be vanilla ice cream topped with butterscotch or caramel topping, pea candy and peanut butter logs representing the chicken nuggets. How fun! How about chicken pot pie for dessert? No thanks! However, this dessert chicken pot pie will feature pie crust, vanilla pudding, starburst candy, jolly ranchers, bananas and apples. You can also serve up cupcakes that look like cheeseburgers, dessert bacon and eggs or cookie fish sticks!
Ingredients
3 Tablespoons White Chocolate Chips (For The Eggs) 1 Square Caramel
Yellow M & Ms 1 Tootsie Roll
For the eggs: Melt the white chocolate chips according to the package directions. Transfer the melted chocolate to a ziplock bag and snip off a corner.
Squeeze nickel-size portions of the chocolate onto a sheet of waxed paper, then gently press a yellow M&M, letter side down, into the center of each. Let the candies cool. Makes 12 eggs.
For the fakin': Remove the wrapping from a square caramel and a Tootsie Roll Midgee. Microwave the candies for 4 seconds to make them soft. Use your thumb and forefinger to slightly flatten each candy piece, then press them together.
Halve the candy, then stack and press the pieces into alternating layers.
So, when planning a party for April Fool's Day, stick with the trickster theme. Fool your guests with the food they are about to it. It'll be a delightful surprise. Imagine putting what looks like a piece of cake into your mouth and surprising your taste buds with a sandwich! You'll have the best trick of them all on April Fools!
