Here are three (pretty simple) ideas for making a baby shower stand out.
Sprinkle the new baby and parent-to-be with love in a baby shower that is, quite literally, all sprinkles. Start at the top. Cut out dots of varying sizes and colors and tape or glue them to a string. Tape several of these to the ceiling for a great effect. Liberally place confetti on the tables to further the theme. Make pretzel sticks, dip them in white chocolate and then roll them around in sprinkles. Use straws with dots (and anything else you can find with dots). Have a cupcake bar and lay out chocolate, caramel, berries, and, you got it, sprinkles.
Once guests arrive, have them sign in. This idea is so very whimsical and clever. Have guests sign in not by signing their names to a registry, but with their thumbprint. They will press their thumb in an ink stamp pad and then place their thumb onto a sheet of paper. Use a variety of colors for the ink. Then, the guest can write their name directly above or below the print. If you are artsy, draw a baby animal or a bundled up baby and draw strings to where the "balloons" (thumbprints) will start. Or, if you're still liking the idea of an alternative to the guest book, but that particular idea isn't quite right, how about having everyone sign a onesie? Your baby can wear it or you can hang it in the baby's room in a shadow box.
Watching the mom-to-be open gifts can be slow-going, except for that one minute when she's opening yours. Make a game out of it. Specifically, bingo. Fill in a card with four boxes up and four boxes across and have guests fill them in with what you think mom will receive. Middle space is a freebie. First one with a full card shouts bingo and gets a nice party favor. Another great game that's easy for everyone and requires nothing but a sheet of pre-printed paper is to have guests guess the baby names of animals. Easy, right? Depends on if you know the baby name of a monkey (it's infant), or goat (kid), or elephant (calf). Another simple party idea is the My Water Broke! baby game. Freeze plastic babies in ice cubes prior to the party. Instruct guests to take one after they arrive. When the ice melts and the baby is free, shout, "My water broke!" First one whose baby is free wins a prize.
Those are some easy ways to create a baby shower that is beautiful, fun, and memorable. Don't forget a cute cake to enjoy while you celebrate!
