The Ring
Whether or not the bride keeps the engagement ring depends on a combination of things. Some people believe that the ring is a gift, and therefore the woman should get to keep it no matter the circumstances (this also depends on the state's laws). A general rule is if the man breaks the engagement, she will keep the ring. If the woman breaks the engagement, it is common courtesy to return the ring.
