Wedding Tip of the Week: Engagement Party Do's and Don'ts

Recently engaged? Congrats! You are about to embark on a fantastic journey to your happily ever after. But there is one event that kicks off the crazy planning–your engagement party! Here are some simple do's and don'ts so your engagement celebration goes without a hitch!

Don't Assume Party Hosts
It is tradition that the bride's parents usually throw this celebration, but that is now not always the case. Make sure to double check with each set of parents and even consider letting both sets throw you a party! Don't forget that friends can throw you one too!

Do Give a Guest List
Normally those invited to the engagement party expect an invitation to the actual wedding shindig. Make sure to give your party host a guest list so no one's feelings get hurt!

Don't Make It Too Formal
The engagement party is usually a casual affair. There are plenty of wedding events that will call for the formal attire (like the wedding)!

Do Get Thank You Cards
While it's not always expected to give a gift at the engagement party, many do like to bring a little something. Make sure to prepare a registry, just in case, and thank you cards.

When it comes to choosing a guest book, many couples are finding that there are so many options to choose from than just having guests sign a book. One trending idea is a photo booth guest book.

If you are having a photo booth at your wedding or event, consider making a guest book out of the pictures your guests take in the photo booth. Make sure two copies are made of the photos, have a scrapbook on hand ready with glue, and have guests write notes and congratulations next to their silly photos!

Trending Tuesday: S'mores Party

With the chilly weather finally lowering the temperature, we wanted to offer a cozy party idea to continue the fall/winter festivities! Here are the basics to throw your very own S'mores Party!

Outdoors
If you are throwing an outdoor party, make sure to have enough blankets to bundle up in and some hot coffee or cocoa! Have a bonfire in the backyard and offer different types of crackers and chocolates so your guests can try different s'more flavors!

Indoors
Want to stay warm indoors? No worries! You can put s'mores in the oven for a more homemade treat. Make sure to keep an eye on them because they get toasty fast. Move furniture around and have everyone sit on the floor with comfy pillows and blankets to give it a "camping" feel.

Inside the Garter Tradition

Every bride, traditional or not, knows something about the wedding garter. This bridal attire hides underneath the dress, waiting to be taken off by the groom and thrown to all the single men attending the big day. Yet, not many people know much about this symbolic tradition. Here is some history about the garter!

There used to be a superstition, hundreds of years ago, that owning a piece of a bride's dress would bring good luck. This led to wedding guests basically attacking the bride to rip off a piece of her gown. Eventually, things became much more tame and the bride would wear a specific article of clothing to be given out for good luck: the garter. Another belief is that the garter symbolized the bride and groom consummating the marriage, so it would be taken off and given to family and friends as proof. Both ancient beliefs require the garter be taken off and given away.

Today, the removal of the garter is reserved for the groom and usually follows the bouquet toss. Whichever man catches it is said to be the next to marry.

Give your guests some kraft bags to fill up with yummy popcorn to nibble on their way home. Embellish the bags with fun stamps and wooden clips.

Party Tip of the Week – Murder Mystery Party Game

We know Halloween is around the corner and you are finalizing your Halloween party planning. From the menu to the creative decorations, a Halloween party wouldn't be complete without it's share of mystery. Here are some tips to help you put together a fun and spooky murder mystery to liven up your shindig!

Hosting a Murder Mystery Party Game

It's important to note that a murder mystery party game usually takes around an 1.5-2 hours (depending on the number of guests). That's why it is very important to plan ahead of time and know what you are in for so you can plan the party around the game!

Here is a quick rundown of how the game should go:

Round 1
The party game is usually separated into rounds.

In the first round, assign guests to their characters and provide them with information about their characters, clue cards with clues to reveal to other players, and information to conceal about their characters (perhaps one character is cheating on their "spouse" which would give them a motive).

Round 2
In this round, the victim is revealed and an investigation will begin. Give players more clues in this round and have them mingle with the other players to figure out who the murderer is. You can also set up some evidence to help with the clues.

Round 3
During this round, each player can make an accusation. After that, hand each player a solution card where they reveal their involvement and the murderer confesses at the end of the game. You can hand out prizes for those who figured it out. This can also lead to other awards of the night like Best Costume.

A Murder Mystery can make your party a memorable one and it doesn't have to take an immense amount of planning. Just have the basics planned out and watch as your guests make the game more fun!
