Have you planned out your Thanksgiving meal yet? The more important question is, have you started planning what your kids will eat? Getting your kids to eat can sometimes be a hassle. But, have you ever thought about getting them involved in creating their own meal? They'll absolutely love knowing that they had a hand in making their own food and will be more intrigued to eat. So, here are a couple of ideas that I am anxious to try with my little girl this Thanksgiving.
- Turkey Nuggets: Something you can always count on is having more than enough turkey to spare after Thanksgiving. Dip them in milk and breadcrumbs and broil for a few minutes until they turn golden brown. What kid doesn't love nuggets? How kids can help: Kids would have fun helping you cut out chunks of leftover turkey with cookie cutters.
- Potato Cakes: Mashed potatoes can be reinvented into an easy finger food. Take cold, leftover mashed potatoes and mold into patties. Dredge them in flour and cook them in melted butter on a skillet for a couple of minutes on each side. How kids can help: Patting the potatoes out into whatever shapes they want. Cookie cutters can be used for this one as well.
- Green Bean Fries: Making vegetables into fries can make the pickiest of eaters happy. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Line leftover green beans onto a foil-covered cookie sheet, sprinkle with a little bit of oil, salt, and parmesan cheese, and bake for 10-12 minutes. For extra crispiness, broil for a couple of minutes. How kids can help: Lining the green beans up on the cookie sheet, drizzling the oil, and sprinkling the seasonings.
Let your kids feel like a part of your Thanksgiving meal this year by bringing them along with you into the kitchen. Happy cooking!
